‘Losing the millions didn’t matter but losing my son did’
Shunned by ‘The Cheshire set’ and hated by his ‘ex-friends’ because of his controversial and shocking bestseller ‘The Sun Sharer’, 56 year old Jack George Edmunson spent every last penny pursuing his dream of becoming a successful author. Now in the top 3% of the UK’s official fiction rankings and charted as number one in the Romance section he is the first self-published author to make the big time. However, he still lives simply in a caravan firmly believing he has discovered 'Real Life' but deeply regrets the last 3 years when manipulative Melanie his ex-wife denied access to his son Jojo. ‘I can never heal my wounds but Jojo’s love is unconditional and of course I dedicated the book to him.’
'The Sun Sharer' is the latest semi-autobiographical book to do well in this emerging market and is a black alternative to most Romances containing a spiritual twist. Edmunson claims only 20% is true but many people have rejected this and ostracised him for basing his characters on them. He said ‘D. H. Lawrence was controversial and left England for Italy because of it. That is why I moved to Spain. Too many of the rich middle-classes think they are something they are not and I decided to say what many people think. It’s not all about names, names, names’.
'The Sun Sharer' follows our most deeply felt involvement in true love, bad love and unrequited love. Importantly the book answers many topical themes such as how life revolves around sex, money and power, corrupting marriage instead of focusing on 'Real Life', and love. ‘You can’t buy time’ and ‘Less is more’ are aspects of the book that have fired reader’s imaginations and inspired them to live their own dream. The author also questions why so many people have to lean on beliefs of a spiritual, religious or materialistic nature without any foundation. However, the sexual and spiritual connotations have meant he has been pursued relentlessly by many middle aged women as he travelled around the UK performing book signings in Waterstones. ‘I enjoyed the bottles of wine, food and crystal angels heaped upon me but the envelopes stuffed with cash and offers of sex became wearing....sometimes’.
Edmunson was driven to writing the book after finding himself unfulfilled in a convenient marriage and with a materialistic and manipulative wife. In 2004 he was working long weeks in a stressful job as a Logistics Consultant but earning £800 a day which he declares was ‘obscene’. Edmunson had visited a clairvoyant and an astrologer, each of whom separately told him to pursue a simple life by the sea. He took the advice and bought himself a holiday home in Catalonia, Spain in search of a more real existence - a decision that was to change his life completely as he saw the contradictions between life in Cheshire and Catalonia. The psychics not only predicted the blue cover but also said his book would be a success and change how people think – and it has. He said ‘I don’t believe and I don’t disbelieve in spiritual things, I now know that we shouldn’t judge things we can’t prove or disprove’.
Whilst Edmunson's dream is now realised it has come at a great personal cost. Having given his wife 100% of the houses in Cheshire and Catalonia as well as 80% of his pensions the author now lives a simple life in a caravan. When asked what he would do if he becomes a millionaire again he commented wryly ‘get rid of the chemical toilet’. But the ‘Riches to Rags author understands it will be a long haul back and if profitable he intends starting CITE - Children In The Evolution, a not for profit business to inspire youngsters to use science to solve environmental issues ‘as 7 billion people and hundreds of governments will never agree anything’.
And the book? It is what everyone wants to say and do but will never admit....especially to themselves.
