| Towards the end of the 18th century Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby eloped from their families in Ireland to settle in a cottage just above Llangollen in North Wales which they renamed Plas Newydd. They became known as the Ladies of Llangollen. Over the 50 years they lived there the cottage was transformed into an imposing house. The two celebrated ladies were visited by many important figures of the day including William Wordsworth, Sir Walter Scott and the Duke of Wellington.
Now two gentlemen have eloped from Wales to visit the Ladies of Littleton, Miss Anna Nielssen and Miss Lara Nielssen. When I paid a visit in the middle of April, 2001 to meet the two gentlemen I had the feeling that having their paws well and truly under the table they had decided against a short visit preferring instead a more open ended arrangement.
Conferring between each meal whether one should relax on a chair, a settee or in a carry cot was their main concern but so difficult. Recharged again with energy the curtains provided a substitute for a climb up Snowdon.
All was quiet and peaceful as I stole away. Well we all enjoy a cat nap don't we?
