| Some 250 people gathered in the Law College, Christleton on the evening of 7th July, 2000 sipping wine and tasting strawberries. They were there to see the launch of a new book Christleton - 2000 Years of History. David Cummings, Chairman of the Local History Group described how the idea had been conceived back in 1997 and how new and interesting material had come to light as the work progressed. He also thanked all his many colleagues in the group and contributors for their painstaking work. The moment then came for the launch. Smashing a bottle of champagne did not seem appropriate so instead a small number of subscribers opened their sealed envelopes at the same time to great applause. As David stood down Phil Hodges, who drew the illustrations for the book, gave an excellent and well deserved tribute to David Cummings for his work and dedication which was heartily acknowledged by the gathering. |
