VERGER EMERITUS

From the beginning of March Cliff Boddy officially "handed over" as our Verger to David Ellis. Cliff now becomes our Verger Emeritus and we hope that we shall continue to see him keeping an eye on everything in Church and making sure we are all "up to scratch". We all thank him for his years of devoted service to St. James in so many ways and hope he will now feel able to take life a little easier. Cliff is kindly helping Dave to "learn the ropes" of what is involved in being a Verger and as we thank Cliff for all he does, we also wish Dave well as he takes up the work.

BELLRINGERS PEAL BOARD

This Peal Board, which will be placed in the ringing chamber of the tower, commemorates a peal rung on the bells of St. James’ the week after David Fisher’s ordination as Deacon.
It was the first peal rung on the bells since 1965, and the first by a largely Christleton band since 1948. Those invited to join the band were the Reverend Bill Wilson, who is Vicar of St. James’, Sussex Gardens, London, with whom David was Pastoral Assistant for a year; the Reverend Brian Harris, now in Lincolnshire, who is a former Master of the Chester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers, and Trevor Holmes, Captain at All Saints, Hoole, who is a good friend to the Christleton Ringers.
