| THE MILLENNIUM DATE PEAL |
| At 8.26 on Friday 27th July, eight of our ringers successfully completed the ringing of the Millennium Date Peal. It took one hour and seven minutes. The number of changes in a Date Peal is the same as the number of that year, and it must be rung without error or repetition. The Peal is also being dedicated to the Queen Mothers Centenary Birthday. It was conducted by Steven Everett, and the ringers were: Treble Jonathan Wright 2 Sally Wright 3 Michael Phillips 4 Carol Ferris 5 Ian Braithwaite 6 Trevor Holmes 7 David Fisher Tenor Steven Everett All are or were Christleton Ringers. The last Date Peal we rang was in 1987 for the Induction of the Revd David Garnett as Rector. The next peal we hope to ring will be for the Queens Golden jubilee in 2002, following the tradition set in 1887, when the Ringers of that year rang for Queen Victorias Golden Jubilee to initiate the Village Celebrations. You too could be involved in events such as these if you took up the science and art of bellringing. It is a hobby that is both interesting and stimulating, and you do not need the strength of superman. We currently have two learning to ring, who are not yet in their teens! It is also another aspect of Church and Village life to which you can contribute, but it does involve commitment, because you become part of a team. If you feel so inclined, come up the Tower when we are ringing on a Sunday Morning or Evening just to observe us. Better still, come on a Tuesday practice night, when there is more time and see what is involved without committing yourself. Alternatively, come and talk to the Ringers in the Parish Hall after the Rededication Service on September 10th. We would be delighted to see you. Roy Fisher |
