| ST JAMES ANNUAL VESTRY & PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING |
| Fifty parishioners were present at the meeting on 17th April. Mr Arnold Oxley and Mr John Eccles were elected as the Churchwardens. Reports were given on the electoral roll, the proceedings of the Council and the Deanery Synod, the financial affairs and audited accounts and fabric and ornaments of the Church. Elected to the PCC for the next 3 years were Mrs Betty Dunning, Mr John Carruthers, Mr David Ellis, Mrs Janet Bowden, Dr Lesley Cooke, and Mr David Mercer. Mr Colin Harris was elected to serve for 2 years (filling a mid term vacancy). Sidesmen from the previous year were accepted en bloc with the addition of Mr Clifford Jackson. In his report, the Rector commented that many faithful members had dies in the past year, among them Jack mercer, Ann Carr, Joan Bridge, Muriel garner and Ken Stark. Ken had been very much involved in the Chester area with music and at St James in the choir, having at one time been Director of Music. The Rector thanked many who worked hard in various ways Betty Dunning as Sacristan and Leader of the Wives Group; the Magazine Team who had ensured that quality and distribution had improved; Gill Hibbert for organising the successful Tea By The Green for the housebound; Richard Nicholson for creating the web site; David Cummings and Pat Nilssen for planning and carrying out Millennium projects; Jeanne and David Goulbourne for their work with the Parish Hall and Churchyard and to their son Howard who had moved from the district. Healing services had been introduced and welcomed. Churches Together in Christleton had organised a series of Lent Talks, which had been well received, attracting an attendance of about 80 each week. To commemorate Mr Cliff Boddys 25 years as Verger he was presented with a silver Armada dish. David Ellis was welcomed as the new Verger. Plans for Beating the Bounds of the Parish were in hand for the 4th June and thereafter every 10th year. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Harold Whetnall paid tribute to the Rector and his wife Fiona for their care and ministry. Cheese and wine were served. At the Parochial Church meeting afterwards the following were elected: Vice Chairman Mr Arnold Oxley; Hon Secretary Mrs Margaret Croston; Hon Treasurer Mr Cec Rydings; Mr Alan McAllester was co-opted.
