Village of Christleton near Chester

Broadband for Christleton, we’re nearly there

We have been working for several years towards creating a connected city, fit for the information age. A major milestone in was achieved last year when British Telecom enabled Chester South telephone exchange users to gain access to broadband internet.

Broadband is a high-speed 24-hour Internet connection, removing the need to dial a service provider, so you can use your computer and still make and receive telephone calls at the same time.

The Government wants all public services to be available online by 2005 and as a council we are playing our part in this.

However, many of our suburbs and villages still do not have access to this technology, so BT has introduced a broadband pre-registration scheme to expand the programme on a viable basis.

Customers are invited to pre-register their interest for broadband. If BT sets a target in an exchange area and it is reached, BT will connect that exchange to broadband. The pre-registration is simple, go to www.broadband4christleton.org.uk, and register your interest. You can also see how many other people have registered in your local area and the number required for BT to connect you to broadband.

The Christleton Telephone exchange has now received a trigger which is the amount BT require before they will enable the exchange. The target has been set at 500 and the pre-registrations for the exchange are over 400. So need less that 100 more registrations to reach our target.

As an incentive to reach the final total, BT have donated an X-Box which will be raffled off when we reach the 500 registrations. To enter the competition you must have registered for broadband through my web site www.broadband4christleton.org.uk, All the people that have registered through my web site will automatically be included in the draw. If you have not registered or may have registered some other way, please register through my web site. Give yourself the opportunity of winning an X-Box and more importantly help the community get broadband as soon as possible.

Several Chester exchanges including Mickle Trafford. Saughall and Kinnerton ave been running successful campaigns are due to be connected in the near future. Other exchanges that are not yet connected to broadband include Christleton, Tattenhall, Malpas, Kelsall and Tarvin.
