| There are probably many copies of the Christleton Cook Book compiled by Margaret Croston and published in 1974 price 50p still in use. These are probably in a well used state by now so it was interesting when a copy in almost pristine condition turned up early in 2002. The book has 56 pages and and features recipes for Savouries, Puddings, Pies, Biscuits and various Preserves and Drinks. Wherever possible an acknowledgement is given for the source of each recipe.
Cook books are even more interesting when you can see and taste the end results. With this is mind one of Christleton's top cooks very kindly prepared Savoury Prawn Slices on page 16 and Christleton Cake on page 34 for me to photograph and feature. There was only one thing left to be done - tasting.
The Savoury Prawn Slices served with salad had a lovely flavour and is a real winner. The Christleton Cake with its gentle hint of lemon served with a cup of tea was a delight.
Switch your oven on, click below for the recipes and enjoy the results.
A new cook book 'The Christleton Jubilee Cook Book' is planned for publication later this year
