CHRISTLETON 5

Launched in March 2023

Welcome to yet another section of the Christleton website. It is Christleton 5 but considering the years it covers it is really out of numerical order.

The Christleton website first appeared in 2000. A lot of material has gone missing from the early years due to the changes in the way I built the website and the diffrent computers. But at the start of 2023 I started delving into what was still hidden away on my Apple iMac and I am pleased to say that I have been able to rescue some of the items that would have appeared on the website from 2000 to 2007. If my searches on the computer for more early material are successful I will of course add this later.

You will see that the photography is not quite up to the standard of more recent additions to the website. Twenty years ago the internet was so different. Downloads speeds were very much slower so web designers had to build pages which would appear before the viewer got bored of watching the spinning wheel waiting for the page to load so moved on. For these reasons it was adviseable not to incude large images. Nowdays, thankfully, many people have amazing broadband speeds so the web designer is not so constricted in their flights of fancy.

CHRISTLETON 5

Although it has changed a lot over a period exceeding 22 years this is the original start and what I would I call the front door to the website for the village of Christleton. It is where you arrive when you type in the url christleton.org.uk. In time it covers the period from about 2008 to 2015.

This is a special section of the Christleton website devoted to Christleton Village Voices - Remembering Our Forgotten Heroes 1914 - 1918. It accompanies the book Christleton Great War Stories published in 2015 with fanancial help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It adds to the book as any new information that has come to light since the publication can be added here.

Why you might ask does there need to be another new section for the website. The answer is that it makes building the website a bit easier. There is a vast amount of material on the site and when any alteration is made it usually requires a lot of uploading to the server. Upload speed greatly increased in 2022 which has made things easier.

This section became necessary as our local historian and wildlife enthusiast David Cummings was producing three new illustrated articles every month. So Christleton 4 All Seasons was born. It is now the section for recording all new events articles and should be the place to go for the latest additions

This the section you are now in. A lot of material got lost from the early years due to the way I built the website and the changing of computers. But at the start of 2023 I started delving into what was hidden away on my computer and I am pleased to say that I have been able to rescue some of the items that would have appeared on the website from 2000 to 2007.
