THE CHRISTLETON WEDNESDAY GROUP (LADIES)

The Group continues to meet on the first Wednesday of every month to plan its popular regular annual charity events in the Parish Hall such as the Spring Lunch, the Quiz Evening. and the cake stall at the Christleton Fete.

It has, however recently made some significant changes to their fund raising events. It has been decided this year in future to concentrate on smaller events run by small groups of individual members. These events will be advertised appropropriately as they occur.

The Christleton Wednesday Group began nearly 60 years ago when a small group of village women got together in each others' houses to raise money for local charities, usually involving children. The membership has increased greatly in size over the years, as has the annual amount of money raised. Since it's inception well over £100.000 has been raised.

Residents of the local villages and their friends have always generously supported the Group's work and made all this fundraising possible. Over the years, the charities supported have included The Leonard Cheshire Home in Christleton ( in the building which now houses Birch Heath Lodge Nursing Home), The Spina Bifida Unit in Chester, the Hydrotherapy Pool in Dee Banks, the Premature Baby Monitors in Chester, The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Hope House, Claire House, The Stroke Association, Chester Link, Chester Aid to the Homeless, Save the Family, Countess of Chester Breast Appeal, Riding for the Disabled, the Multiple Sclerosis Support Centre in Saltney, the Adolescent Unit atThe Countess of Chester Hospital and many more.

Past fund raising activities have included fashion shows, jumble sales, antiques road shows, quiz nights, railway tes, a 5k fun run, safari suppers, bridge drives, musical evenings and the annual Spring and Christmas Lunches, Christmas card sales, and a stall at the Fete, selling homemade cakes.
